Cake of Sweden by Taste of Nordic

Cake of Sweden. What is that? Is it a cake? Is it a pastry? Is it a bun? April 6 marked the start of all home bakers in Sweden to participate in creating the most delicious, most Swedish pastry recipe. A jury will select the winning pastry which will be served at Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

Pastry makers across the country – from Ystad in the very south to Haparanda in the very north of Sweden – are urged to send in their most delicious recipes for the “cake” they think epitomizes Sweden. Following countrywide races the winner is named in the Cake of Sweden “grand finale” early May. The competition is organized by Spot and Tell and under the name Cake of Sweden by Taste of Nordic the winning pastry will be served and sold in the Swedish Pavilion’s Café during Expo 2010.

As Official Supplier Catering to the Swedish Pavilion at Expo 2010 Taste of Nordic will run the VIP restaurant on the top floor and also the public café at ground level. This is where the Expo visitors may come to enjoy a traditional “Swedish Fika” – a cup of coffee (or tea) plus a bun, pastry or cake. The winning pastry will be sold in the café starting with Sweden’s National Day 6 June and until 31 October.

Taste of Nordic bid winner, plus the accompanying free admission to Expo 2010, a guided tour of the Swedish pavilion and exhibition, and closing coffee with Cake of Sweden in the café. On Taste of Nordic’s page on Facebook, the participants are able to upload their own pictures and info about their pastries.
