About World Expositions
Brief History
The first exposition took place in London 1851 and was called “The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations”. During the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century world expositions was an important platform to showcase innovations and spread industrial products internationally. Many important new products have had their premiere at world expos and even buildings from these expositions have become very valuable for the hosting city, like the Eiffel Tower for Paris and Atomium for Brussels.
What is a World Expo?
A world expo is an exposition where all nations are invited to participate and showcase their own exhibition under a certain theme. There are two types of world expos; “Registered exhibition or exposition” and “Acknowledged exhibition or international exhibition”. The first is held every five years since 2000 and has six months of operation, the second is held once between two registered exhibitions and have three months of operation.The past years’ world expos have been held in Hannover 2000, Aichi 2005 and in Zaragoza 2008.
