Organisation

In autumn 2007, the government of Sweden appointed former Mayor of Stockholm, Carl Cederschiöld, to the position of Chairman of the Committee for Sweden’s Participation in World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The government has appointed six members to the Committee in addition to the Chairman. The Committee is a decision-making agency with responsibility for financial and employee-related matters, preparation and implementation of Sweden’s participation, etc.

As for previous World Expos, a National Council has been established for Expo 2010, consisting of some 40 leading representatives from the official and private sectors. The National Council is an important forum for discussion, reference and coordination, and it is important that the exhibition concept is firmly established amongst the members of the National Council. Carl Cederschiöld is also chairman of the National Council and Fredrik Wetterqvist, from the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, is secretary.

An Expo secretariat has been established to manage the operative aspects of Sweden’s participation. Ms Annika Rembe is Commissioner General and Head of the Secretariat. Additional personnel are Ms Nina Ekstrand, Deputy Commissioner General; Ms Anna Rygård, Programme Director; Ms Tove Engström, Communications Director and Mr David Lorentzon, Project Officer. More information can be found under the Organization Chart and Contact tab.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR)
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is the mechanism whereby enterprises and organizations manage human rights, social conditions, environmental responsibilities, business ethics, labor-related issues and community involvement, based on a set of guidelines. Here is a brief presentation of some of the key guidelines. We see these guidelines as key frameworks for our CSR efforts allied to construction of the pavilion and exhibition, our program activities and our web pages.
Â
• UN Global Compact: A United Nations initiative under which businesses undertake to operate in conformity with ten principles on human rights, labor standards, environmental responsibilities and anti-corruption. These are based on the Declaration on Human Rights, the ILO Core Conventions on workers’ rights, the Rio Declaration and the UN Convention against Corruption.

• OECD: The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises are recommendations to businesses on sustainable economic development, including environmental development, human rights and employment rights, business ethics, taxation, and product responsibility. Enterprises in Sweden can sign up for Global Responsibility, an initiative that supports businesses in applying the UN Global Compact and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises to strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish industry and increase awareness of multinational regulations.

• ISO 26000: A standard for socially responsible behavior that offers enterprises and organizations practical guidance on integrating issues relating to social and environmental responsibility in their activities. The standard is currently in preparation and is expected to be released in 2010.

• Save the Children Sweden: The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is the charter at the heart of Save the Children Sweden’s work. Save the Children Sweden monitors compliance with the convention at international level and strives to promote stronger rights for children.

• The International Labor Organization: The ILO is the United Nations agency that focuses on employment-related issues and is the author of the eight ILO Core Conventions on freedom of association and the right to organize, collective bargaining and the abolition of forced labor and child labor and discrimination.
We see the above guidelines as key frameworks for our CSR efforts allied to construction of the pavilion and exhibition, our program activities and our web pages.
